Belgian Arts & Crafts Turkey & Mole Pitcher Jug c1890.
STUNNING ARTS & CRAFTS POTTERY PITCHER JUG
This is a LARGE BELGIAN POTTERY ART & CRAFTS HANDLED JUG dating from c1890. It is of a SQUAT CURVED FORM, the shape of which is very ARTS & CRAFTS and reminiscent of designs by CHRISTOPHER DRESSER.
The decoration is what appears to be a TURKEY holding a WEASEL or MOLE in it's beak (possibly a Family Crest or Society Emblem ???). The same decoration being repeated on the other side of the body. The piece has the MOST WONDERFUL GLAZE, which is RICH and VIBRANT like TREACLE and carries NO MAKERS MARK.
The jug is in LOVELY UNDAMAGED CONDITION, aside from two very small Glaze Chips, One on the lip edge and one to the base edge, neither of which detract.
