This is an Original Wood-Cut Engraving by Gustave Dore published in London in 1870.
Gustave Dore was born in Strasburg in 1832 and from an early age displayed great talent as an artist. In 1853 he was commissioned to illustrate the works of Lord Byron, which was soon followed by a new illustrated Bible. He went on to illustrate many further works, including Cervantes’s Don Quixote, Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner, as well as scenes for Dante, Milton and Balzac.
He was a successful artist but is better known for his Wood Cuts and Engravings in which he excelled.
Size of Image is approx 9 3/4" by 7 1/2" (24.5cm x 19.5cm). When mounted they suit a Frame approx A3 Size .
