Royal Doulton Character Jug, Capt Bligh D6967
Made by Royal Doulton and Designed by Stanley J. Taylor, this was the Character Jug of the Year issued in 1995

The Jug Commemorates the 1789 Mutiny on HMS Bounty, during which Fletcher Christian along with 17 of the ships crew mutinied against the Captain William Bligh and set him adrift in an open boat with 18 of the 22 members of the crew who were loyal to him.
They survived, reaching land at Timor in the Dutch East Indies, after a 3500 mile journey.
*** Of local interest is the fact that Hms Bounty and her crew anchored at St Helens on the Isle of Wight on the 29th November 1787, before departing English waters for Tahiti on the 23rd December.***
