T his is a HAND DECORATED SHIPS CREST for HMS WESSEX.
There were two ships named HMS WESSEX and also a ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE SHOREBASE STATIONED in SOUTHAMPTON DOCKS by this name.
HMS WESSEX - V & W-class Destroyer (launched on 12 March 1918)
HMS WESSEX (ii) (R 78) - W-class Destroyer Launched on 2nd September 1943
The plaque carries the Latin inscription " Proles Militum" which means "Offspring of Soldiers"
The piece is HAND DECORATED and mounted on Wooden Plaque and dates c1980's.
